Co-Development of Soluble Systems´ TheraGauzeTM Wound Dressing at PSI

Polymer Solutions (PSI) has been instrumental in the development, design, synthesis and fabrication of Soluble Systems´ innovative patented TheraGauzeTM wound dressing material. This innovative medical SMRT (Skin Moisture Rebalancing Technology) polymer wound dressing controls, balances and maintains the moisture content in the healing of skin wounds. Wounds that become dry and desiccated can lead to unnatural death of cells and living tissue, while wounds that become too wet lead to localized separation of the dermal layers and subsequent infection. The difficulty most frequently encountered when trying to maintain fluid balance in the wound is the level of fluid management required over the healing time of the wound. The TheraGauzeTM product represents a new approach to wound management that involves the use of a biomimetic proprietary polymer sheet that is designed to release or absorb moisture as conditions at the wound surface change over time. The performance of this film-based medical dressing is a direct result of the formation of microscopic capillaries within the film, which are formed using the proprietary fabrication technique used to create the product, a technique that was co-developed by PSI.
