Supporting your materials design, implementation and
quality control with Thermal Analysis . . .

Thermal analysis techniques measure the thermal transitions (DSC, DMA, TGA), chemical reactions (DSC), and the modulus or viscoelastic properties (DMA) of a polymer as a function of temperature, heating rate, deformation, and atmosphere.

These techniques provide specific thermal properties of polymer materials and products but more importantly can be used to determine the composition of compounded plastics and rubbers as well as gain information regarding the condition or processing history of specific samples relative to other similar samples.

Applications:
  • Thermal transitions
  • Thermal stability
  • Compositional analysis
  • Viscosity
  • Material characterization
  • Filler content
  • Dynamic properties
  • Material selection
  • Quality control

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Measures the heat capacity and heat flow of materials over the range from -90° to 725°C.

Applications:
  • Degree of Crystallinity
  • Heat capacity
  • Thermal conductivity
  • Crystallization kinetics
  • Oxidative Induction Time (OIT)

Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)
Continuously monitors the weight of a sample during isothermal or dynamic temperature scans over the range from 30° to 1000°C in an air, nitrogen, oxygen, or specialty atmosphere. Atmospheric conditions can be varied dynamically during analyses.

Applications:
  • Thermal stability
  • Compositional analysis
  • Filler content
  • Comparative analysis
  • Specification testing
  • Competitor product analysis

Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)
Dynamic Mechanical Analysis measures the mechanical properties of materials as a function of time, temperature, and frequency. Our DMA instrument operates over a wide temperature range (-150 to 600°C) and provides multiple modes of deformation including dual/single cantilever, tension, and torsion. Other fixtures and deformation modes may be available on request.

Applications:
  • Determination of Tg of highly crosslinked/crystalline materials
  • Determination of modulus under a variety of conditions
  • Determination of curing behavior
  • Creep experiments
  • Projection of material behavior using Time-Temperature-Superposition experiments
  • Material selection
