Industrial Cleaning Solution

A client needed to determine the components of an industrial cleaner. Specifically, they were looking for the proportions of the materials and the identity of the trade secret ingredient. We were able to determine through ¹H NMR the identities of the components and their proportions. In addition, we were able to discern the secret ingredient and its probable chemical structure.

Electronic Component

A client sent an electronic component and asked us to identify the main polymer of the component. A combination of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimetry yielded data sufficient to confidently conclude that the polymer was TPX, poly 4-methylpentene.

Protective Coating

In another case, a client asked us to deformulate a specialty protective coating. Using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and multi-dimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) we were able to characterize the melting range, chemical constituents and molecular weight of the coating. This information could be used by the client to either formulate or purchase additional coating material.
