Extractions & Digestions
Polymer materials are often extracted to separate critical components for further identification and quantification. Low molecular weight materials are particularly susceptible to extraction techniques. Other uses are related to measurement of a crosslinked or gel fraction or separation of blended polymers using targeted solvents.
Digestions are used to breakdown a crosslinked, or otherwise difficult to dissolve polymer, to analyze a component that is often found as reinforcement such as glass or carbon fiber in a composite product. The experienced staff at Polymer Solutions Incorporated can help you to identify the proper technique for analysis of your materials and products.
Applications:
- Determination of percent extractables.
- Filler content determination.
- Additive removal for further analysis.
- Determination of filler content by digestion of matrix resin.
- Acid, base, and thermal destruction of the matrix can be performed.
