Polymer Structure Analysis

Polymer blends and copolymer systems are utilized in many industrial applications. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) can be used to analyze polymer samples, raw materials, and blends. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) provides highly detailed chemical structure information that can be used to enhance the FTIR spectral data sets.

Polymer Identification

The chemical composition of a polymer or polymer based product can be best determined using spectroscopic techniques such as FTIR and NMR. Homopolymers are typically easily identified using FTIR however copolymers or blends are better suited to NMR.

Copolymer compositions and identifications of unknown polymers are accomplished using these techniques as well. In the cases where NMR is used the proper solvent system will be determined by PSI for the client.
