Food Contact Testing

CFR Food Contact Testing is part of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) related to processing or packaging materials that come in contact with food.

There are 50 titles within the CFR covering a wide variety of areas, everything from highways and banking to national defense and public health. Source: U.S. GPO. Title 21 pertains to Food and Drugs and Part 177 is written for “Indirect Food Additives: Polymers”.   These regulations cover materials that come in contact with food, and thus are considered an indirect food additive.  Examples are food storage containers, materials used in the production of food goods, and even the tools used in your kitchen for cooking and preparing food.
